Team,
Great
showing on the weekend. The kids (minus C. Demelo who was with us in
spirit despite lounging on the beach) portrayed a lot of resiliency and
character. Having played (6) games in (3) days, including (3) games on
Saturday (with the HL game), it was great to see they stepped it up and left it
all on the ice. We always hope that our Players have FUN in minor sports...
...and it’s always fun for a Team to win a Tournament.
We need to realize and appreciate the significance of this accomplishment seeing as we are an ‘A’ Centre in size, and didn’t have to make any cuts during tryouts. :) Outscoring our opponents 31-4 throughout the tournament is both impressive and somewhat surprising, considering the talent level of the teams we faced. These teams will predominantly comprise next year’s Novice Major teams whom we will compete with in the Bluewater League, and they will all improve as we hopefully will. Please note that just because we were successful in this tournament, it does not mean that next year we will see the same level of success. It’s always the hope that our teams will perform well, but never the expectation. All we ask is that our players give 100% effort, every time they step on the ice.
For now let’s just enjoy the fact that our 2003 Amherstburg Stars have brought home a Select7 Trophy to our new Arena, something that I don’t believe was all that common in the past. I understand that the trophy will be displayed in the Trophy case that is in the process of being finalized.
