On The Road To Richmond Hill...
The Amherstburg Stars downed the LaSalles Sabres AE 4-0 Thursday night in a tune-up game prior to the road trip to Richmond Hill. The first tournament of the season began with the Stars on fire! The Stars struck early with 2 power play goals and followed up with a lopsided 5-1 victory over the favoured Vaughn Rangers. The lone Ranger goal came off a deflected shot late in the third period.

The momentum, however, was quickly thwarted early Saturday morning after a barrage of questionable penalties which saw the Stars down repeatedly one or two players for the first 2 periods vrs the Caledon Hawks. The Stars found themselves down 3-0, and despite being repeatedly short handed the team battled back to pull within a goal. The team dominated play in the Hawk zone early in the third period.  Stars players were repeatedly tripped and slashed around the Caledon net, with no equalizing calls. The Stars lost their first game of the season 5-2 after Caledon scored an additional 2 power play goals late in the third.

The Stars fate was no better in the final game they would play in the tournament when the team met the Whitby Wildcats, on Saturday afternoon. The team fell 4-1 in a penalty riddled game. Despite the 2 losses, and early exit from the tourney,  the coaches and players enjoyed the “good bonding” weekend.  The Stars look to rebound, in their home opener against Southpoint on Friday night.

Fortunately for the Stars, John Ferguson of the Toronto Maple Leafs, only witnessed the Stars at their best during their victory over Vaughn Friday night. He was especially impressed and commented on the Stars relentless physical play.
