Midget Minor's show strong at Silver Stick
The Amherstburg Midget Minor's, coached by Glen Holden,  travelled to the Silver Stick tournament in Woodstock  this weekend and were able to beat out several other teams to finish in the top three!

The Star's started the weekend with a 5-2 victory over Guelph Jr. Storm friday night.  Goaltending by Josh Paquette included many huge saves at key times. The scoring included a pair of goals courtesy of Avery Brush, a goal and assist from Mitch Holden, Kyle Fockens and Garett Meloche as well assists from Cory Burns, Joel Rorseth and Braeden Derksen.  Saturdays games  included the Star's second win by a score of 3-1 over the Oakridge Aero's which had unassisted goals by Cory Burns and Jordan Bastien as well as the third netted by Mitch Holden assisted by Brent Allen and Avery Brush.  Josh Paquette got the "W" as goaltender. A regulation tie game with Brantford Saturday led to sudden  death overtime eventually giving the Star's their only loss of 5-4.   Wes Werner stood strong between the pipes facing over 30 shots from a tough opponent whom would eventually be in the  tournament final.  The goals were scored by Garett Meloche, Jordan Bastien and Spencer Benvenuto.  Assists in this match came from Ryan Wismer, Kyle Fockens and Kane Morneau.  The teams efforts, boosted by a strong showing by both  Star's goaltenders and their defense teams, paid rewards as the team gained first place in their pool and a berth in the semi finals against Oakville Rangers on Sunday. The '97 Star's needed to get past Oakville to play in the tournament finale.  The first goal was  driven in by Jordan Bastien assisted by Mike Lenson and Garett Meloche, and the second goal came as Cory Burns passes to Mitch Holden who set up Ryan Wismers blast into the mesh.  Wes Werner once again faced more than 25 shots from a unrelenting Oakville team.  However, the semi's would be the final game as the  Midget Minor's came up just short in a tough 4-2 loss.   The Star's next participate in the Riverside Midget hockey tournament Dec 27-30th which includes many international entries.
