Midget Minor's start playdowns with win!
Midget Minor Star’s open playdown’s with convincing win over Erie Northshore! The OMHA Bluewater League playdown’s began this weekend as Amherstburg played host to several local teams at the UCCU Complex.  The Midget Minor’s hosted their first game of the weekend Friday night against Erie Northshore.

The Star’s were out to set the pace in this contest starting the scoring early as Mitch Holden and Ryan Wismer assisted giving Cory Burns his first goal of the night.  Later in the first period of play Garrett Meloche would take a pass from Spencer Benvenuto and feed it onto the waiting stick of Cory Burns who would make no mistake in burying the puck into the unattended side of the net.  The second period found the Star’s pushing even harder backed by a great goaltending performance from Josh Paquette who stood tall shutting down a couple of penalty kill situations with the aid of his defensemen.  Back on the power play it was Ryan Wismer once again assisting after firing a shot into a crowded crease where Kyle Focken’s shot left a great rebound that gave Cory Burns his hat trick goal putting the Star’s up 3-0.  However as the 2nd period played out Erie came back on two quick power play goals as the Star’s found themselves in the box and down two players.  With the score tightening up and the intermission looming, Burns line mates would once again put a nice shot on net leaving him a quick rebound for his 4th goal of the night, and giving the Star’s insurance heading into the third period.  The third period was all Star’s as they were anxious to put this game to rest with a strong finish.   Paquette began the period once again saving several shots through two more penalty kill situations.  Then as the game wound down Erie gave up a pass in their zone to Kane Morneau who quickly turned the play around sending the puck to Spencer Benvenuto, he fed it to Burns who sidestepped two Northshore players, pulled out the goalie and finished off his night with the 5-pack goal, a true milestone for #9 Cory Burns, joining the ranks of names such as Lemieux, Richard and Sittler in the 5 goal club!  In the closing minutes Mike Lenson and Braeden Derksen set up a breakaway for the Star’s Jordan Bastien who’s hard play payed off with a nice backhanded goal to wrap up the game.  Final Score 6-2 for the Star’s!
