Midget Minor's split weekend series with Riverside
Midget Minor Star's split weekend series versus Riverside Rangers    The Star's continued their playdown run this weekend with the first two games of a six point series versus the Riverside Rangers.

Friday nights opening game at the WFCU was an overtime thriller with Amherstburg taking home their first win of the season against the Rangers. The opponents opened the scoring however the Star's returned the favor early in the second period when Braeden Derksen's slap shot from the point,  off a pass from Garett Meloche, got through the goalies pads and crept across the goal line for the Star's first goal. Shortly after Spencer Benvenuto and Cory Burns would set up Kane Morneau who blasted one in for the go ahead goal.  The Rangers tied the game up before the intermission, and then midway through the third regained the lead.  As the clock wound down, Josh Paquette stood strong between the pipes and it seemed to be all Star's when Spencer Benvenuto tied things back up off a pass from Kyle Fockens with just over a minute left.  Heading into sudden death overtime the Amherstburg fans could anticipate what was going to happen next, as Kyle Fockens and Garett Meloche stormed into the Rangers zone they put it on the stick of Cory Burns who got the OT winner!
Saturday night had the Star's hosting Riverside at the UCCU and as fate would have it the Rangers returned the favor by stealing a road win to even the series back up at two points each.  Although a tightly contested game, the Star's found the back of the net elusive and were kept off the scoreboard. The defense were strong in front of Josh Paquette, including Braeden Derksen pulling a puck back from the point of no return helping to keep Riverside off the board.  However late in the second the Rangers scored and again in the third putting them ahead by a deuce.  Amherstburg's Mitch Holden chased down a Riverside breakaway to minimize the damage but the Star's were left scoreless in the end.  With the series all even again, action will continue again this weekend at the WFCU Friday night at 9:25 PM.  Go Star's!
