Novice Stars capture OMHA championship with two wins in Fort Erie
Special to the RTT

The Amherstburg Stars novice major team traveled to Fort Erie this past weekend, and thanks to a 3-2 win Saturday and a 7-2 win Sunday, the team came home OMHA Champions!

The kids also returned home to a crowd of friends and family cheering for them as they got off their bus Sunday evening at the Libro Centre! It was an amazing weekend for both the kids and fans.

The Fort Erie team definitely put up a good fight, but the Stars fought back and came out on top!

The Novice Major team is the youngest team ever in AMHA to make it this far and win the OMHA championship.

“The coaching staff is incredibly proud of these young kids! This is a surreal experience for the entire team, and a memory for them to cherish for a lifetime,” said Stars head coach Shaun Cote.  “The OMHA championship was won because of the hard work, dedication and sheer depth of the entire team. After our first five games of the season, September 20th to be precise, every single player on this team recorded at least one point, this speaks volumes to the depth of this team.”

Cote said the Stars finished the season off with an extremely impressive 37-15-5 record, with two out of three tournament wins. “We fell short in the Essex Early Bird tournament, only to bounce back and win the Halton Hills Best of the Best Tournament, as well as the Southpoint Capital Cup Tournament, and to follow that up with an OMHA Championship title is just mind blowing,” said Cote.

Congratulations to all of the Amherstburg teams who brought home titles this weekend! Go Stars Go!
