Stars Split Weekend Games!
The Amherstburg Stars Major Midgets traveled to Leamington last Friday night looking to stay undefeated in this young season, where they would face off against The Southpoint Capitals. Both Teams fought hard in the first period, but nobody was giving an inch, as both teams looked to grab the early lead.

It would be The Stars, when at the 43 second mark of the first period, Cory Burns was able to fire in a shot off a Mike Lenson rebound.  The Stars added to the lead in the second period while on the power play,  Kyle Meloche slammed home a backdoor pass from Jarrod Smith to give the Stars a 2-0 lead heading into the third period. Early in the third,  Southpoint tried to get back into the game,  when at the 11:19 mark they were able to beat The Stars Goaltender with a deflected puck in front of the net.  Again the Stars took a 2 goal lead when Garrett Blount went top shelf with a backhander off a nice pass from Mitch Holden late in the third.  With solid goaltending from Thomas Demarco and strong defensive play from Reed Thrasher and Colton McGregor, The Stars got the win 3-1.  There would be no time for celebrating, as The Stars would be right back on the ice at home Saturday night against The Riverside Rangers.  The Rangers struck first at the 10:00 minute point of the first period, giving them the 1-0 lead heading into the second period.  Both teams picked up the physical play knowing that the next goal would be very important to have, but it would be The Rangers again who were able to find the net.  Down 2-0 midway through the third period on a night where no bounce were going their way, The Stars were able to break the ice when Kyle Meloche deflect a Mike Lenson slapshot to give them some life.  The momentum seemed to be swinging The Stars way, but a late period penalty would put them a man down, and The Rangers added a empty netter to to give them the 3-1 win.  It was the Stars first loss of the season.
