Atom Minor Wins St. Thomas Boston Pizza Cup!
On November 20-21-22, the Amherstburg Stars Minor Atom team traveled to St Thomas for the Boston Pizza Cup tournament.

Friday’s action saw the Stars winning their first game 1-0 over Stratford and followed that with a 4-1 victory over St. Thomas in the afternoon. Their last game of the round robin would see the Stars walk away with a 3-1 win over Owen Sound on Saturday morning. These same two teams would meet in the semi-finals Saturday afternoon. Again the Stars came out on top with a convincing 4-1 win advancing them to Sunday’s championship game against the host St. Thomas Stars. Amherstburg would jump out to a quick lead with Noah Mathieson getting the scoring started with an unassisted goal midway through the first. The Stars would take a 1-0 lead into the second period but weren’t done there. Beckham Sawchuk would add an unassisted goal of his own and minutes later Noah Mathieson would score again with an assist going to Owen Fleming ending the period with Amherstburg up 3-0. With 3 minutes remaining in the third period St. Thomas would pull their goalie to add an extra attacker but Tyler Gignac would end their hopes with an unassisted empty net goal sealing the championship with a 4-0 victory. Back stopped by goaltender Noah Braithwaite and a stingy defense consisting of Stevie Desantis, Darian Dufour, Tiago Goncalves, Cole McGrath, and Jonas Woods – the Stars would only give up 3 goals in 5 games. Remaining forwards Ryken Atherton, Maxton Evans, Broyden Hebert, Ben Jenkinson, and Luc Renaud would contribute to a tournament best 16 goals in 5 games. Way to go boys !!!
