ATOM MAJOR Essex Early Bird TOURNEY CHAMPS!!
The Atom Major team participated in the Essex Early Bird tournament this past weekend. We started Friday afternoon with a 3-1 win against LaSalle, followed by an evening game against Grimsby ending in a 2-2 tie. The Stars had an early morning game on Saturday, where we came out firing, scoring 2 in the first period to take a win from the Windsor Junior Spitfires 4-1. The 2 wins and a tie in pool play gave us enough points to finish first in our pool allowing us to advance to the semi-finals.
In semi-final action on Saturday night, the Stars played a tough Sarnia Sting team, but were able to defeat them handily, 3-0. The Championship game Sunday afternoon was to be played against the tournaments' host team, the Essex Ravens. The team came out shooting and took a commanding 2 goal lead for most of the game. The Ravens fought back hard to tie the game with 4 minutes left in the 3rd period. This ended regulation time with a 2-2 tie. Five minutes were put on the clock for overtime, but the Stars only needed a minute to score one in OT to take home the tournament championship.
The coaches and parents are very proud of all the players for their perseverance so early in the season and playing together as a team.
