Kids Curing Cancer/AMHA Hockey Day, January 21st, 2018 update
Submitted By AMHA webmaster on Wednesday, January 03, 2018
Thank you AMHA and everyone involved today. Our volunteers pulled off 14 hours of putting on armbands, taking them back off, sorting and counting them, selling tickets, and sharing information about the Fight Like Mason Foundation. We had conversations with people that beat cancer, and some that lost loved ones to cancer. We had donations in the form of $100 bills, and sweet donations of nickels and dimes taken from personal piggy banks. We are so proud to be a part of this wonderful community.  We surpassed last year's KCC/AMHA day and ended with a total of $4820.45, which we will add to our Pasta / Music night at Sprucewood Winery in February.  Way to go, Amherstburg! Congratulations to the Jr Tyke Blue team. Their team total of $610 has earned them a team set of Spitfire tickets for a game in February. Information will be sent to you.

The 5th Annual Kids Curing Cancer Fundraiser is very proud to be partnering with the Amherstburg Minor Hockey Association.  This year, all funds raised will be donated to the "The Fight Like Mason Foundation". Please open the links at the bottom of this article for more information on this worthy endeavor

Kids Curing Cancer was started 4 years ago by Lauren Baillargeon (age 13) from Amherstburg.  Her goal was to raise $50 in donations to thank the doctors and nurses at the Cancer Clinic at Windsor Regional Hospital for taking such good care of her Grandpa, Dan Gerard.  Her goal was quickly surpassed, and a donation of over $3800 was presented to the Patient Assistance Program in March, 2014.  The following year, her brother and sister, Ty and Kierstyn (age 7)  jumped on board to help her help even more families in our community.

In 2017, Lauren, Ty and Kierstyn were very excited to partner with Amherstburg Minor Hockey.  A goal to include even more kids was achieved, and with your help, the first ever “Kids Curing Cancer / AMHA Hockey Daywas held.  Over 500 kids wore arm bands created by students and staff at Western Secondary School, and the Ammonite Family from Accurate Creations.

A total of $4341 was raised that day and the top raising team (Jr Tyke Green Teamed with a total of $930 in donations) earned a team set of tickets to a Windsor Spitfires game.

The money raised from that day was added to money raised at a pasta fundraiser. In March, Lauren, Ty and Kierstyn made a donated $8240 to the Windsor Ronald McDonald House.

In 4 years, Kids Curing Cancer has raised and donated over $25,000.

This year, Kids Curing Cancer is very proud to be supporting The Fight Like Mason Foundation, and once again, part of the fundraising will include a “Kids Curing Cancer / AMHA Hockey Day” which will be held on January 21, 2018.

Please visit www.fightlikemason.org to learn more about how this local organization is working to fight childhood cancers, provide kid friendly medical equipment to children in their homes, and honor their son, Mason Macri.

Attached is a donation form that can be used to collect names and addresses of those wishing to receive a tax receipt for any donation over $25.  Every player will have an armband to wear, regardless of whether a donation was collected or not.  Players that bring in donations that day will be entered in a draw to win a $100 Canadian Tire gift card.  Please hand in your donations in a sealed envelope with your name, division and team colour or name marked on the front.

The team with the most donations will receive tickets for the entire team to attend a Spitfires game on Saturday, February 24th at 7pm.

(Please get your forms / donations to your coaches ahead of time if you will not be at hockey on January 21 in order for it to count towards your team’s total, and to get your name on a ballot!)

Kids Curing Cancer and AMHA wish to thank you in advance for your support and participation in this fundraising event!

The AMHA wants to ensure your child has an enjoyable experience playing hockey.  A big component of this experience is their safety.  We, the AMHA believe that concussions and concussion management are very serious and important matters.
