Notes
Victory was in the hands of the Amherstburg 97 Star's last night as they defeated Riverside in a penalty laden affair. The Star's started the scoring after #19 Rorseth tipped in a slap shot from #2 Wismer on the point, also assisted by a pass from #9 Burns. The Ranger's managed to tie the game up at one a piece early in the second but the Star's were determined to take home a win on this night. With both teams shorthanded the Star's were able to score their second when #9 Burns scored off a perfect pass from #25 Damico assisted also by #8 Holden. Towards the end of the second the 97's once again found themselves in the box and one man short but this time #4 Derksen assisted with the perfect pass to #25 Damico who scored shorthanded for the eventual winning goal. With the teams coming out of the intermission and the Star's leading 3-1 both benches knew the game was far from over. #30 Werner came up big time after time keeping the Ranger's out of our mesh. As the third period played out Riverside would sneak one more into the net, but it would be their last of the night. Amherstburg dominated play and with good defence and lots of offense the Star's got their insurance goal when #7 Bastien scored for the Star's off an assist from #25 Damico (his third point of the game) The goal was scored early in a well played 5 on 3 opportunity for the 97's which they were sure to capitalize on. The Bantam Minor's then proceeded to run the clock out and hang out for an important win and 2 valuable points in the playoff hunt. Final Score 97 Star's 4-2 GO STARS !!!
