Notes
The 97 Star's skated to a 2-2 draw with the Chatham Maroon's at the Thames Arena Sunday night. Both Chatham goals were essentially on the powerplay as they were scored seconds after the penalties expired for the Star's in what would become another penalty riddled game. After falling behind 1-0, #25 Damico pressed hard with the Star's down a man and was rewarded when he intercepted a Maroon's pass and went on to score the Star's first goal of the night, and Damico's second shorthanded goal in as many games. Later in the second period Chatham once again took the lead by a score of 2-1. As Amherstburg battled hard down low both #2 Wismer and #25 Damico nearly scored goals after both hitting the crossbar moments apart. The defence was strong including #4 Derksen who sacrificed himself to stop a Chatham breakaway, while keeping the Maroon's from scoring. As the flurry of offense continued another Star's shot dribbled right on the goal line but refused to turn the red light on. As the Star's headed into the third period they successfully fought off a full two minute 5 on 3 opportunity, frustrating the Maroon's further. The clock ticked down and Amherstburg seemed to have the momentum when #25 Damico passed to #9 Burns whose shot on net provided the perfect chance for #2 Wismer to drive home the equalizing goal with a few minutes remaining. In the final seconds the Star's pressed hard and nearly scored the winner, but the game finished knotted up at a pair. Final Score 2-2 GO STARS !!!
