GAME TIME CORRECTION: THIS GAME WAS PLAYED AGAINST RIVERSIDE RANGERS
The Star's played against their rivals, the Riverside Ranger's, in a tightly contested game at Forest Glade Arena late Friday. Amherstburg found themselves on a early power play after a head contact penalty was served by Riverside. As the power play came to a close Brent Allen assisted by setting up a one timer from Jordan Bastien who blasted a shot past the net minder from the blue line. Kane Morneau kept the score even when he took out a pair of Ranger's during a two on one break later in the period. The Star's goaltender Josh Paquette played very strong coming up with several big saves as the game progressed. The Ranger's had their chance in the middle of the period when a puck sat alone in the crease but the Star's Joel Rorseth chipped the puck out to the neutral zone keeping the Ranger's off the board. As the period came to a close, Riverside eventually managed to sneak one past Josh Paquette leaving the game tied at one. The second period would see Riverside score their second taking the lead for the first time in the game. A very tight defensive style was played including Mike Lenson clearing out Paquette's crease after a scrimmage in front of the Star's net. In the middle of the second Kyle Fockens skated back to spoil a 2 on 1 breakout by Riverside as he took back possession of the puck. The game remained a one goal contest until the last few minutes with many excellent scoring efforts by the Star's. Amherstburg coach Glen Holden made the decision to pull the goaltender as time ran out, but Riverside found the empty net to end the game. The game was curfewed after a last minute melee following the last goal, final score 3-1.
