Notes
Saturday night's home game versus Southpoint Capital's gave the Minor Midget's their first win of the season. There were many penalties resulting in a host of power play goals as the game continued. Southpoint opened the scoring in the first on the powerplay but Amherstburg's Jordan Bastien scored shortly after off an assist from Mitch Holden while playing with an extra skater to tie the game. Late in the opening period Star's goal tender Wes Werner came up huge with a big glove save keeping the game at one each. The Capital's once again scored taking the lead, however Star's Jordan Bastien would once again knot the game at two, driving home a powerplay goal setup by Ryan Wismer. Later in the period Amherstburg would take a 3-2 lead when Braeden Derksen's point shot ended up on Joel Rorseth's stick, who then flipped it to Cory Burns, he made no mistake finding the back of the net. As the period ended a surging Avery Brush fought through two Capital's nearly creating another breakaway for the Star's. Third period action found Kane Morneau providing the perfect tip pass to Cory Burns who buried his second of the night. Although Southpoint threatened after bringing the score within one, it would be a pass from Kane Morneau to Spencer Benvenuto who fed the puck to the Star's Jordan Bastien who completed his hat trick performance, sealing the Capital's fate. With twenty seconds left Southpoint crashed Wes Werner's net in a final scoring attempt but the Star's quickly cleared the opposition out. Final score 5-4 Star's. Go Stars!!
