Notes
The Essex Ravens hosted the Amherstburg Midget Minor's in their first meeting of the season on Sunday evening. Essex took an early one goal lead which stood until late in the first when Cory Burns scored first for the Star's assisted by Ryan Wismer and Brent Allen. Essex regained the lead seconds later to end the period up by one. The Ravens added to their lead on a power play goal making it 3-1. The Amherstburg Star's battled back after Kane Morneau sacrificed himself to a 5:00 major penalty against the Raven's. The Star's improving power play, aided by the strong blue line presence of Mike Lenson and Braeden Derksen, paid dividends when Spencer Benvenuto added to the tally with seconds left, assisted by Kyle Fockens and Cory Burns. The final period would find a Star's team determined to come back. Early on, a pass from Mitch Holden to Jordan Bastien was redirected behind his back to Joel Rorseth who lifted the puck over the Raven's goalie scoring the tie goal. As time dwindled Essex scored their fourth, but the Midget Minor's would not be denied. Moments later the Star's crashed the slot area with a tight pass from Garett Meloche to Cory Burns who laid the final goal of the game onto the stick of Spencer Benvenuto who made no mistake in scoring his second of the contest. Goaltender Wes Werner kept the Star's in the game standing strong between the pipes facing 38 shots. Final score 4-4
