Notes
Saturday night found the Minor Midget’s playing a strong defensive game against the visiting Lasalle Sabres. Outstanding goaltending by the Star’s Wes Werner kept Lasalle off the board until the last few minutes of the match. The scoring began early when the Star’s Brent Allen broke through two Lasalle defenseman and buried the opening goal top shelf giving Amherstburg the early lead. Amherstburg’s defensive unit including Mike Lenson and Braeden Derksen continually shut down Lasalle’s offensive efforts, in fact Lasalle would fail to score an even strength goal throughout the game. The score remained the same until late in the third when the Star’s once again scored on a well placed pass by Kane Morneau to Cory Burns who scored the second goal for the Star’s. As the game clock ticked down, the Star’s only penalty of the game led to a Lasalle goal just as the Star’s fifth man was stepping out of the penalty box. In the last minute Star’s goalie Wes Werner again stood strong, having denied over 30 shots on goal, but the Sabre’s would once again score with fifteen seconds left for the equalizer as they pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. Final Score 2-2
