Notes
The Amherstburg Midget Minor's took home a point on the road during a 3-3 tie result in Belle River Saturday night. Both teams battled hard throughout the first period but no one managed to find the mesh until early in the second when Spencer Benvenuto brought the puck in deep on a two on one, faked the goalie before passing the puck to Cory Burns who scored the games opening goal. Less than a minute later the Star's Kyle Fockens chipped a pass into the crease where Cory Burns was planted firmly and found the puck long enough to sneak it past the Canadien's goaltender for his second goal in less than 30 seconds. Amherstburg's goaltender Josh Paquette was in fine form including a huge save from a blistering shot in front of his net moments after the Star's had brought their lead up to two. Later in the period Belle River's luck would change however, after managing to score their first, moments later a fantastic glove save by Paquette was deemed to have crossed the goal line knotting the game at a pair. After the intermission the Canadiens would find the net again giving them a one goal lead. However, the Star's were not going to let this opportunity escape. A nice lead pass from Braeden Derksen set up Jordan Bastien who stormed Belle River's net and seemingly willed the puck into the mesh to tie the game back up at three. As the game clock ticked down Belle River had one last chance with just over a minute remaining when a Canadien came in all alone only to be rejected once again by Star's goalie Josh Paquette. The Midget Minor Star's finished the game with a 3-3 tie, making them the only "A" centre to take home a point from first place Belle River this season! With only a trio of regular season games remaining you will want to catch the teams next home game this Friday night at the UCCU Complex when they host Kent at 7:20 PM Go Stars!
