Midget Minor Stars move ahead of Tecumseh Eagles in Standings!

The Amherstburg Stars travelled to Tecumseh for a Saturday night game which promised to be a hard played affair by two teams each within a point of one another in the league standings. The Eagles would be in for a rough ride however as Wes Werner played strong in net for the Star's, he would eventually face almost 40 shots.  The games pace was set early when Amherstburg's Cory Burns started the parade of goals after putting in a rebound off a point shot from Ryan Wismer.  As the first period wound down the Eagles had their chance with a near breakaway until Wes Werner came way out of his net to shoot the stray puck to safety.  The second period found the Star's killing off a couple of penalties in a row and then building on their lead when Brent Allen fed a  pass to Ryan Wismer who once again assisted passing to Mitch Holden who picked the top corner making the lead now two goals.  After the intermission the Star's continued their offensive assault backed up by strong defensive play.  Early in the third period Spencer Benvenuto put it  on Cory Burns stick, who scored his second of the night bring the Stars up by a trio of points.  Later in the game a slap shot by Tecumseh would be deflected away when Avery Brush blocked the shot, keeping the Eagles off the scoreboard.  Amherstburg's fourth goal came when Braeden Derksen and Mitch Holden executed a textbook two on one resulting in Holden's second goal of the night.  As a desperate Eagle's team pushed even harder in the final minutes they were finally able to sneak one past the outstanding Wes Werner to play spoiler.  The Star's would return the favour moments later when Ryan Wismer got his third point of the night by closing out the game with an empty netter.  The final score was 5-1, a convincing win that moves the Star's ahead of Tecumseh in the OMHA standings.  Both teams will meet again however in the first game of the upcoming Riverside International Tournament at the WFCU on Dec. 27th at 11:30 AM.  Go Stars!!
