Notes
The Amherstburg Star's played the K&B Selects for the first time at the Riverside Tournament. The European team is comprised of selected players from the countries of Slovakia and Belgium. As the game got under way these two teams quickly discovered that although from opposite ends of the globe, we had two well matched opponents which led to a great hockey game. The Star's Wes Werner would stop a K&B breakaway in the second period keeping the score at nil. Eventually the Midget Minor goalie would stop over 35 shots on the way to victory. However, in the late moments of the 2nd period it was the Europe Selects who scored first putting the Star's down by one. The game would continue to be a grinding battle until late in the 3rd period when Amherstburg's Spencer Benvenuto would once again come up big scoring the tie goal at 2:45 assisted by Kane Morneau and Cory Burns. With K&B now on their heels the Star's pressed harder resulting in Kane Morneau scoring the go ahead goal less than 20 seconds later off a pass from Ryan Wismer. With the tides turned, the European team scrambled with time running out. Wes Werner kept the Star's on top including a huge save minus his stick with less than 2 minutes left. K&B pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and searched desperately for the equalizer but the Star's Spencer Benvenuto would not have it, as he scored the empty netter and his 3rd of the tournament to close the door on the team from Europe. Final Score 3-1
