Notes
The final game of the preliminary round saw the Star's play their second game of the day, against the Riverside Rangers. As always these two teams would battle hard to a low scoring tight finish. This game surprisingly found both teams staying out of the penalty box and focusing on solid hockey. The first period saw Star's goaltender Wes Werner keep Riverside off the board during a scoreless first frame. Early in the 2nd Riverside would score the games first goal putting them up by one. Amherstburg's moment would come well into the third period when Joel Rorseth's pass to Brent Allen would be sent up to Cory Burns who scored the equalizer for the Star's, score now one a piece. It was a scramble to the finish with both teams looking to win their third of the tournament, but the Rangers would take this one with a last minute goal resulting in a 1-2 loss for the Star's. As fate would have it, both teams would match up in the points resulting in a rematch the following day in the semi final game. Go Stars!
