Notes
The Midget Minor's returned back from the break to face the Chatham Maroon's on their home ice at the Thames Campus Sunday night. The Star's played solid throughout including great efforts from the "AP's who stepped up for the team, Jack Hubbell and Jake Topliffe. The game found the Star's scoring first when Mike Lenson and Braeden Derksen combined to nearly tip in a blast from the point, the resulting rebound was quickly put in by Jordan Bastien for the first goal of the game. The lead would stand until later in the period when Chatham would sneak one in for the equalizer. Mitch Holden sacrificed to keep the game tied when he stepped in to block a slap shot halfway through the first period. As the period ended Spencer Benvenuto and Braeden Derksen would assist with a set up to Mike Lenson who fired the Star's second goal past the Maroon's goalie into the mesh with 2 seconds left in the period. The second period's scoring was limited to a single goal by Chatham which once again tied the teams at a pair leading into the intermission. The third period was a hard hitting and well played frame by both teams. In the final minutes the Star's goaltender Josh Paquette once again stepped up to stop 3 or 4 shots from his crease before the Amherstburg defence took out the opposition players which unfortunately led to a Chatham powerplay. With 1:35 remaining Chatham managed to score just as the power play expired giving them the lead for the first time in the game. With 1:10 to play the Star's emptied the net to push for a tie result. However, with seconds remaining a puck bounced out of the Chatham zone allowing the Maroon's to get the insurance goal for a final score of 4-2. The Midget Minor Star's have a week full of action including games Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Be sure to catch the action! Go Stars!!
