Strathroy Rep Olympic Finalists
Congratulations to the peewee major team on a great tournament in Strathroy.
A strong round robin which included wins against Erie and Saugeen Shores, gave us the chance to avenge an earlier 2-1 defeat against the home town team Strathroy in the finals. The championship game was full of excitement. A slow start saw the team down 1-0 early in the second period and then, following an unfortunate bounce off the back boards the Stars were forced to try and battle back from a 2-0 deficit. As we did in the earlier games, the third period was dominated by the Stars. After cutting the lead to one with a nice wrap around goal from Crispin, the team continued to carry the play in the Strathroy zone for the final 5 minutes. A few nice saves, a dozen blocked shots and a cross bar kept us from tying the game in the final few minutes.
As has been the case all year, strong goal tending from Wharram and Renaud gave the team a chance to win every game. All 3 lines continued to generate scoring chances and our newly improved team defense held the opponents to only 6 goals against in four games.
Great job Stars!
