Midget Majors rebound from loss to pick up two wins

It didn’t take long for the Amherstburg Midget Majors Stars to find their winning touch. After dropping their first game of the season last week, the Stars rebounded by picking up two more wins. Friday night the Stars picked up a decisive 6-1 win over the visiting Erie North Shore Storm at the United Communities Credit Union Complex. Roughly 24 hours later the boys were back at it, pulling out a 6-3 win against South Windsor at the South Windsor Arena. After picking up the two weekend wins, the Stars find their record sitting at a modest 5-1-1. Eric Rogic, who made his first start of the season, made 11 saves in Friday night’s tilt “I thought the boys responded well after the loss,” said head coach Matt Fox. “They were a little careless at times but when you play the game sometimes those things happen.” The Stars seemed to let last week’s loss fall to the wayside as Martin Yancy scored for the Stars 13 seconds into the opening minute on Amherstburg second shot of the game. Jack St. Louis would add to the lead with just over three minutes left, James Lucier and Tyler Morand each picked up the helper. Amherstburg kept up the attack in the second period, lighting the lamp three times with goals coming from Greg Fera, Eric Shaw and Michael Popel for a commanding 5-0. The Storm would capitalize on the Stars sloppy play in their own zone as they slipped the puck past Rogic halfway through the third period to avoid the shutout. Matt Ward-Trymbulak added another goal with 26.3 second left in the game. After Friday nights game, Fox said he believes the team is “gelling together nicely.” “With the new guys that came in, it seems everyone is getting along and working together,” he said. ”I think we are progressing pretty decently.” Fox did mention he would like to see the team’s goals against decrease and less turnovers, however with time, Fox mentioned that could be achieved. St. Louis said the Stars were hungry to get back on the ice after losing their first game of the season. “I thought we rebounded very well,” said St. Louis. “We put the puck in deep, scored a lot of goals and banged some bodies.” St. Louis admitted the power play break out “wasn’t working like it should” and stated some practice time may fix the problem. On Saturday night, St. Louis and Lucier found the back of the net in the first period, which was followed by a Fera second period goal. Frank Desjardins added two more goals in the third while Fera picked up his second goal of the game in the 6-3 win.
