Midget Major, Travel Teams, 2013-2014 (Amherstburg Minor Hockey Association)

Special to the RTT  Around the town of Amherstburg last Monday, there were 16 young men who happen to play hockey for the midget major Stars program that all made salon appointments as golden mohawks and blonde “mo-fros” were getting clipped to the floor.That was because their hockey season officially came to an end but not before they claimed their fifth piece of hardware and were crowned the true champions of all of Ontario.When the final whistle blew in Timmins, the Stars realized they had yet another dream come true and all their hard work had paid its dividends just as head coach Glen ...

Thank you to the OMHA Alumni from 2009-2010 for coming out to prepare us (and kick our butts) for the OHF's in Timmins.  You are STARS for your past accomplishments and for still giving back to all those who remember your WIN from 4 years ago.  The fact that you won the OMHA championship after 23 years showed the up and coming STARS that this was possible. Special to the RTT The Amherstburg Minor Hockey Association celebrated its most successful year ever this season as three teams (novice, bantam major and midget major) all won their OMHA championships in a span of three hours last Sunday.Some might say it was the worst winter ever, but for 54 aspiring hockey stars from Amherstburg, it was truly the greatest winter of their lives.

Special to the RTT  Do you remember that song by Meatloaf called “Two out of three ain’t bad?”  The midget major Stars have taken down two of three mottos on the back of their warm up gear.  Coach Glen Holden’s vision is as powerful as it was last September when all the players were handed a warm up shirt and on the back, in silver letters, it the logo that Holden created.  The six inspiring words simply said “Dream it. Believe it. Achieve it.”  As the season progressed and the systems were starting to fall into place, the dreams of better things to come were actually coming true.

Special to the RTT  Strong goaltending is never overrated. Just ask the defensemen on the back end of the 2013-14 Amherstburg Stars midget major squad.  It can lose you a series, or in the Stars’ case, it certainly can be the defining difference in any series that can make or break you.  Stars’ netminder Daniel Tonietto played simply flawless in the pair of games he was assigned to protect the crease in and his play was the difference as the Stars now advance to the OMHA finals against the Ajax Knights.
