Stars Suffer First Loss of Young Season – Saturday November 12, 2011
The Amherstburg Stars Select 7 travel hockey team put forth a strong effort Saturday night but came up short against a very skilled and powerful team from Essex.

The first period opened with a flurry of shots from the Ravens and if not for the strong defensive efforts of Cameron Sinasac, Layne Sinasac, Gavin Meloche, Andrew Digiovanni, Alexandra Seagris and Hayden Bondy and great goal tending from Jayden Duchesne, the game would have slipped away early.  Drake McGowan also chipped in with a strong defensive effort as well early in the first period to break-up a 2 man break-away for the Ravens.

The Stars had several great scoring chances in the first period from Sebastien Tronchin, Noah Duggan, Rees Kozar and Hayden Bondy but were not able to get one past the Raven's tender.  Tronchin just missed on the short side on a partial break-away as did Noah DugganRees Kozar fired a hard wrist shot from the slot that just missed the top right corner and Hayden Bondy just missed streaking in on the left wing.

The second period started very much the same as the first with the Ravens sending a lot of rubber towards Duchesne and he can up with several key saves.  It was at 4:05 of the second period when Carson Allen took a great feed from Drew Booker and stick handled his way to the net and buried a nice forehand shot into the left side of the net to get the Stars on the board.  Just minutes later, Sebastien Tronchin with the help of Kieran Thrasher and Drake McGowan just missed a goal on a nice wrap-around move from behind the net.  But Tronchin refused to be denied as he positioned himself in front of the net as Drake McGowan battled for the puck along the boards and was able to get the pass away while still on his knees.  The pass came right to Tronchin in front of the net and he buried the shot to get the Stars their second tally of the game.  Strong efforts and scoring chances from Colin Cote, Owen Beaudoin, Rees Kozar and the rest of the forwards and the outstanding play from all of the Stars defence, especially Gavin Meloche who earned the "hard hat award" for the hardest working player, kept the game within reach.

The third period opened with the Stars being called for a tripping penalty just 20 seconds in.  Being a player short, the Stars had to make several strong defensive plays and Brock Boyko made several key saves to keep the Ravens off the board early.  Boyko made many more great saves the remainder of the game, but the Ravens would come out on top 11 – 2 this game despite the team’s efforts.

The Stars put the armour on for their next game on Monday night against LaSalle and I’m sure we’ll see another great effort from a great group of kids that make up a great team who know how to have fun.

Good luck and remember, go to the net and keep your stick on the ice!!

This week’s feature player is Drew Booker.  As always, Drew put forth an outstanding effort and played strong all night.  Drew’s great vision allowed him to find Carson Allen open in the high slot and earned himself an assist for his efforts.  Keep up the great work Drew and we all look forward to seeing you suited up again on Monday night.
