Midget Majors 4-0
The Major Midgets faced a couple of  ”A” centre rivals this past weekend trying to keep pace on top of the Bluewater Hockey League.First up was the first place Riverside Rangers last Friday night at the WFCU Centre.

The visitors were able to strike first when at the 5:29 mark of the first period, as Garrett Blunt was able to dig a puck out of the corner and put it on the stick of Kyle Meloche who roofed the puck over the Riverside goalie’s shoulder. Early in the second period, the Stars would strike again when Garrett Meloche freed Jacob Damico on a breakaway; he went bar down to give them a 2-0 lead.Later, at the 5:35 mark of the second period, Jarrod Benninger was able to tip in a pass from Ernie Godden to make it a 3-0 score. Both the Stars and the Rangers were able to put the puck in the net again in the second period, and the Rangers added one in the third. However, with several key saves from goaltender Thomas Demarco, and solid defensive play from Colton McGregor and Reed Thrasher, the Stars were able to take the win 4-2.There was no time for rest, as the Stars were right back at it with the Southpoint Capitals Sunday afternoon at the Libro Centre. The Stars would find themselves down quickly when the Capitals found the net early in the first period. However, that lead would not last long, as Mitch Holden – on a great individual effort – fired a shot past the Capitals’ goaltender tying the game. The Stars would take the lead at the 3:31 mark of the first period, when forward Garrett Blunt would stuff in a goal off a pass from Kyle Meloche.  There was no looking back, as Cory Burns would add two goals, and Mitch Holden would add another. Both Burns and Holden finished with two goals! With solid defensive play from John Purdie and Ryan Wismer, Josh Paquette and the Stars were able to secure a 5-2 win.Up next for the Stars is the Erie Shores Storm next Saturday evening at the Libro Centre.
