Midget Major, Travel Teams, 2014-2015 (Amherstburg Minor Hockey Association)

The defending OMHA Major Midget Champions started their quest for another banner this past Friday evening at home, as they welcomed in a much improved Erie North Shore Storm.   The line of Mitch Holden, Kyle Meloche, and Garret Blunt combined for two first period goals to give the Stars a 2-1 lead heading into the third period. 

The Stars were looking forward to defending last year's International Silverstick title with another win this year; in Petrolia over the Holiday.  With preliminary round wins over Mooretown (4-2), and Woodstock (4-0), the Stars skated right into the Championship game on New Years Day, where they would once again face-off against The Woodstock Navy Vets.  Knowing they would have to beat The Stars two games in a row, Woodstock seemed determined to extend the series to the next night.

Five members of The Major Midget Amherstburg Stars were selected to participate in  the 2014 Bluewater All-Star  Game and Skills Competition the previous weekend in Lakeshore.  On Team White, forwards Jacob Damico, Cory Burns, and Mitch Holden were joined by defencemen Ryan Wismer and Goaltender Thomas Demarco. The Major Midget Stars earned three tough points this past week to maintain their lead on top of The Bluewater Standings. Thursday evening The Stars faced off against the third place Belle River Canadiens, in Lakeshore.   The Canadians came out flying with extreme pressure, but with some solid defensive play from Ryan Wismer, Colton McGregor, Mike Lenson, Reed Thrasher and John Purdie; goaltender Thomas Demarco was able to keep the puck out of The Star's net.  

Friday evening The Major Midget Stars faced off against their neighbors from the North, The LaSalle Sabres.This one started real fast, as The Sabres were the ones who struck first when they were able to get past a pinching Stars defenseman, and tucked home the goal at the 12:26 point of the first.  While on the powerplay, Reed Thrasher blasted a shot from the point, and Nick Bertram tipped in the tying goal at the 11:10 mark of the first.  Quickly, it would be Nick Bertram again who would strike off a Mitch Holden pass to give The Stars the lead.
